A selection of Damptech jobs across Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset and Somerset: before, during and after. Representative of how we work on every job.

Before & after

BeforeA rubble-stone wall taken back to bare stone, with two arched recesses roughed out and old damp staining across it
AfterThe finished wall, with two smooth hand-formed curved niches, exposed timber beams and bare floorboards
Cottage wall, taken back to stone and replastered with niches. The wall taken right back to the brick and stone, old render and plaster off, treated, then re-rendered and finished with two hand-formed curved niches. (This one was tanked; these days a cavity drain membrane is usually the better option.) Beams left as found.
BeforeChimney breast before treatment, with damp staining and spoiled paint along the skirting board beside a blocked fireplace
AfterThe same chimney breast after treatment, replastered around the fireplace opening and left to dry before decorating
Damp chimney breast, treated and replastered. Damp along the skirting and around a blocked fireplace. A chemical damp-proof course injected at the base, the wall taken back to masonry (old render and plaster removed), then re-rendered and replastered ready to decorate once it has dried out.
BeforeA wall taken back to the substrate, old paint layers peeling above the damp line and debris across the floor
AfterThe same wall re-rendered up to the treated height, ready to be skimmed and decorated
Rising damp, taken back to brick and rebuilt. The wall taken back to the bare brick and stone, old render and plaster removed, a chemical DPC injected, then re-rendered in fresh sand-and-cement coats and skim finished.
BeforeThe corner beside a patio door taken back to bare brickwork at low level around the threshold
AfterThe same door reveal replastered and made good, meeting the existing paintwork in a clean line
Damp at a patio-door threshold. Damp tracking in at the base of a rear door reveal. The wall taken back to masonry, treated, then re-rendered and replastered back to a clean finish.
BeforeA ceiling with the water-damaged plasterboard cut away, exposing the joists and old loft insulation, water staining around the edge
AfterThe same ceiling re-boarded with new plasterboard and insulation and skim-plastered smooth, ready to decorate
Water-damaged ceiling, replaced and made good. A leak from the flat above had ruined the plasterboard. We cut the damaged board out, fitted new board and new insulation, then skim-plastered the ceiling flat ready to decorate.

Every job is different. These show the standard of finish, not a fixed scope of work. See our services for what each treatment involves.

On site

The stages between “before” and “after”: stripping back, injecting the damp-proof course, fitting membrane and dealing with the damp source before anything is made good.

  • A wall hacked back to brick with two rows of white damp-proof course injection plugs along the mortar beds
Chemical DPC injected into the mortar bed. The white caps seal each injection hole.
  • A corner hacked back to brick with damp-proof course injection plugs, a trowel in the wall and a damp-proof membrane laid over the floor
DPC injection carried around an internal corner, with a membrane laid over the floor.
  • The lower half of a wall covered in a dark render scratch coat with a heavy swirled key pattern for the next coat to grip
A scratch coat, keyed by hand so the next coat of render grips properly.
  • A wall re-rendered and skim-plastered smooth over the treated area, sockets reinstated, ready to decorate
The finished wall: re-rendered and skim-plastered over the treated area, ready to decorate.
  • A room with damp-proof membrane fixed across the walls and window reveal, taped at the joints, ready for rendering
Damp-proof membrane fitted around a sash window reveal, before the render and finish plaster.
  • A chimney breast faced with damp-proof membrane over a metal mesh backing during remedial works
Damp-proof membrane fixed across a chimney breast, a common damp spot in older houses.

Woodworm & timber

Loft and floor timbers checked for woodworm, then sprayed with an insecticidal treatment. More about woodworm treatment.

  • A roof timber among older rafters showing woodworm exit holes and orange-brown bore dust across its surface
Woodworm exit holes and bore dust on a roof timber. This one was treated with an insecticidal spray.
  • A loft space with exposed roof timbers and rafters, insulation pulled back near the hatch and ladder
Loft cleared and insulation lifted so every accessible timber can be checked and treated.
  • Floorboards lifted to expose the joists and sub-floor void, with some darkened timber visible
Floorboards lifted to inspect and treat the joists and sub-floor for woodworm.
  • A twin-tank pump unit on a driveway that feeds insecticidal fluid from the tub to a spray lance for woodworm treatment
The pump that feeds treatment fluid from the tub to the spray lance during woodworm work.

How we diagnose

Every job starts with a survey using calibrated equipment, so the treatment matches the real cause. More about our surveys.

  • A hand holding a Protimeter moisture meter against a ceiling, the display reading 999, the top of its scale, with the red warning bar lit
A Protimeter reading 999, the top of the scale, on a ceiling that looked sound from below.
  • A FLIR thermal image of a room corner showing a cold spot in blue and purple against warmer orange surfaces
Thermal imaging reveals cold, damp areas behind the surface without any damage.
  • Drone view of a weathered brick chimney stack with cracked flaunching and lichen, Weston-super-Mare rooftops and the sea beyond
Drone survey of a chimney stack over Weston-super-Mare: cracked flaunching found from above.
  • Drone view looking down a roof valley between two pitched clay-tiled roofs with lead flashing
Roof valleys and lead flashing checked by drone, no scaffold needed.
  • Close view at roof level of a chimney with cracked cement flaunching and a lichen-covered flat roof behind
Cracked flaunching and failed pointing at roof level cause damp at ground level.
