Damp and timber surveys in North Somerset
Every treatment we quote starts here. An independent survey using calibrated meters, thermal imaging and drone inspection, so you spend money on the right fix, not a guess.
Why the survey matters more than the treatment
The single most expensive mistake in damp work is treating the wrong cause. A chemical DPC does nothing for a leaking downpipe; tanking a wall does nothing for condensation. A proper survey is what stands between you and paying for work that was never going to succeed.
Because Damptech is independent, the survey isn’t a sales call for a fixed product.
The equipment we use
- Protimeter Surveymaster, calibrated moisture readings on a 1 to 999 scale, taken at multiple points and heights to build a moisture profile of the wall.
- FLIR thermal imaging, reveals cold, damp areas and moisture tracking behind plaster, tiling and render without any damage to finishes.
- Professional drone, close-up inspection of roofs, chimney stacks, parapets, valleys and high-level brickwork with no scaffold hire.
- Salt / hygroscopic testing where rising damp is suspected, to distinguish ground salts from condensation.
What you get
- A plain-English explanation of the cause on the day
- A written report where you need one (pre-purchase, lender, solicitor, dispute)
- A quote for the specific remedial work, with options where genuine choices exist
- Honest advice where the fix is a DIY job or nothing at all
When to book a survey
- Buying a property with a damp or timber note on the mortgage valuation
- Tide marks, blown plaster, musty smells or black mould appearing
- A builder or surveyor has recommended “damp proofing” and you want a second opinion
- Recurring damp after previous treatment elsewhere
Where we treat damp & timber surveys
Common questions
What's in a pre-purchase damp and timber report?
A written report covering moisture readings, the condition of walls and accessible timber, identified defects, likely causes, and recommended remedial work with an indication of priority. Suitable for sharing with a solicitor or mortgage lender.
How does the drone survey help?
Most penetrating damp starts at roof level, cracked pointing, slipped tiles, failed flashing. A drone inspects it all close-up without scaffolding, so we can identify the source faster and cheaper.
How long does a survey take?
It depends on the size of the property and how much needs opening up or accessing, so we give you a realistic idea when you book.
